She's covered sports for some of the most prominent media in the world. Her time working at The Washington Post was spent reporting on several Olympics, Grand Slam Tennis, football and basketball. In 2004 Nichols was transferred to ESPN for nine years during which she was awarded 2 Emmy Awards and appeared on many of the network's most watched programs, like SportsCenter as well as NFL Countdown. Reporters were also in the stands as well as a part of Monday Night Football. After that, she was transferred onto CNN Sports and Turner. The first show she created and hosted was self-titled, Unguarded together with Rachel Nichols, and aired weekly on CNN and CNN International. Over a billion viewers watched the show across the globe. In the course of this broadcast, Nichols was a reporter for TNT's NBA broadcasts including playoffs, regular season, and the All-Star broadcast teams. She has also worked for TBS reporting as an anchor covering baseball and golf coverage. CBS broadcasted the Final Four. Only the second woman has been picked from over two hundred nominations in the 42-year old history of the award.
